Are your energy bills constantly rising and eating up your hard-earned money? Are you ready to stick with the big power companies and do something about it?

In Britain, as in many other countries around the world, energy prices are skyrocketing. Recently, the main energy companies decided to give themselves a salary increase by imposing a price increase in the region of 10%. And they have decided to do it just before the most expensive bill of the year, the winter quarter. It’s no big surprise to many of us, who’ve seen these kinds of cynical moves by these giant companies before, despite the usual media outcry about families being forced to live in “fuel poverty.”

But what if you could do something about it?

No, no, not yet another switch from one provider to another like you’re some kind of tennis ball that bleeds money every time it lands on their side of the net. What if it was possible to generate your own electricity, so that you could lower your bills or even eliminate them? What if it was possible to generate enough power for THEM to pay you for it? Well, such things are perfectly possible, in several different ways.

When you think of ‘Free Energy’, you probably picture a wind farm filled with huge turbines, or possibly some solar panels. The problem is that these solutions are not always practical. Solar panels are great, but they can be very expensive and take many years to pay back your investment. And where do you put them, if your ceiling is not suitable for installation? And there probably isn’t much room for a wind turbine in the yard of a 3-bedroom semi, not to mention what the neighbors would think of it. But a lucky few have used these technologies to their advantage, and some HAVE even gotten electric companies to pay them.

But what if those ways aren’t practical for me?

Wind turbines and solar panels are just the main ways to generate free power; are not the only ways. Other ways include harnessing background radiant energy from the sun and outer space, using static electricity, and using the radio and television waves that surround us all the time. And if harnessing the sun’s radiant energy sounds like too much of a stretch, stop and think for a moment about what exactly the SOLAR panel on your desktop calculator is doing right now. Oh well…

But surely that kind of thing can’t be safe?

No less secure than the solar panel you were looking at. But seriously, your home’s electrical system is dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing and it can kill you. Never work on an active system. It is best to start small and work your way up to more complex and higher powered systems. If you are not sure, consult a professional.

So what wonderful new technology can harness this free energy?

Well, actually, this technology has been around for 100 years, but it’s not very well known. It is based on ideas developed by an inventor named Nikola Tesla. He was a scientific genius during the last century, but he was unconventional. He created many devices for experiments with generation and transmission of electricity. He may have heard of, for example, Tesla coils. He believed that “electrical energy is present everywhere in unlimited quantities”, and developed his technologies to harness that energy for the common good. There are many conspiracy theories surrounding the suppression of his ideas. Many free energy systems and devices are based on his ideas.

But surely equipment like that must be really expensive and complex to build?

In fact, a simple circuit can be put together in half an hour. It contains a handful of common electronic components, which can be obtained at any high street electronics store or online. It costs less than five cents and can provide enough voltage to charge your mobile phone. The circuit diagram can be seen in our short video. Please try it for yourself. It’s actually a really fun electronics project to do with kids (without high voltages), a bit like when you remember to turn on a small radio with a lemon. The principle can be expanded to power larger devices.

So why doesn’t everyone do it?

A lot of people just wouldn’t know how, and just accept the continual price hikes. And imagine how much your local neighborhood version of Montgomery Burns from The Simpsons wants you to know about stuff like this. Can you guess? I bet you can!
