Copper Canyon is every nature lover’s dream come true. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Mexico located in the state of Chihuahua. Blessed with stunning natural splendor, the region is made up of a series of mountains and values. Pine and oak trees cover the mountain peaks. There are around 20 canyons spread across Chin Chua City.

The Copper Canyon are the youngest geological formations in Mexico. By the way, they are also the largest on the North American continent. They were formed millions of years ago due to intense volcanic activity. They are currently found in what is now northwestern Mexico.

Geologically speaking, its formation took place after the eruption of thousands of volcanoes, which spewed literally tons of lava and ash, forming the chains of plateaus that can be found today. Seismological activity created deep fractures in the earth’s crust. The smooth nature of the rocks means that the rivers that originate in and flow through the Copper Canyon form deep canyons on their way. The rivers generally merge with the Gulf of Mexico. In fact most of the canyons bear the names of these powerful rivers, Candamena, Urique, Batopilas, for example.

The area is famous for its rich flora and fauna. Biological diversity is attributed to two distinct climates, one predominant in the mountains and the other in the plateaus and plains. The climate can range from snowy peaks to subtropical temperatures in the valleys. The canyons are home to hundreds of rare bird species such as the military macaw, the long-eared trogon, to name just two. It is not surprising that most of Mexico’s animal life is found in these canyons. Famous mammals include the black bear, the puma, the endangered Mexican wolf are some of the examples.

The same goes for the plant life found in the region. There are several species of tropical and temperate plants that thrive in the region.
