Rutherford’s Gold Foil experiment helped lead to the discovery of the nucleus. What Ruther Ford did to discover the nucleus was to use a machine that would fire some particles that were very small and positively charged. Then what the machine would help do is spray the alpha particles onto a sheet of lead that had a hole in it. The hole allowed the thin beam of particles to be directed and fired at a piece of gold foil. What you did to see or see is that the alpha particles would go through the gold foil and the gold foil was placed in some zine sulfide. The zinc sulfide would be surrounding the gold foil and would flash green when the particles touched or found it.

There were a couple of particles that didn’t go through and they shot off at a certain angle. With all of that, there were a couple of particles that would bounce off. What this illustrates is that most of the particles bounced off because they went head-on with something that also has a positive charge. Which also led Ruther Ford to another conclusion, which was that the atom was practically empty. That’s why the particles went through the atom, except when they hit something positive. So that’s when Ruther Ford decided that the fact that the particles were bouncing, which made him think hard, that’s when he was able to figure out why they were bouncing when they got shot at the LED sheet going through the hole and past the sheet. of gold hitting zinc sulfide. He came up with a name that had the same charge as alpha particles. Ruther Ford named the positively charged thing inside the atom nucleus. Not only is the nucleus positively charged, it is also very, very small or tiny compared to the atom itself. Another thing that people should know is that the experiment was conducted during the year 1908 to 1913.
