Quarterback Drills can vary in quality depending on the skill you are trying to improve. On this page we will look at some of the many options available.

The first exercise we will discuss is the backward step dill. The quarterback should go straight back, after taking the snap and picking up the ball as he prepares to throw the ball. The next three steps will also be cross actions going straight back.

The two feet together throwing drill has the first quarterback scooping up a ball along with his dominant palm and bringing it to his ear area. He keeps throwing the ball between them at a distance of about 15 yards.

The next drill has the quarterbacks getting down on one knee and throwing the ball back and forth. He will pick up the ball with one hand, cock it high with two hands, and throw it to the partner. After the release is complete, the thumb should point toward the ground.

With each move, make sure they catch the ball again. After at least 15 repetitions, repeat the routine with the other hand.

Coaching youth football, especially the quarterback position, can cause a coach to lose sleep. Everyone wants to achieve success, but if an individual lacks a great grounding in the fundamentals, it will be difficult to achieve.

The next quarterback drill should be used every day to build superior quarterbacks. Have the quarterbacks throw the ball without stepping forward. Gradually increase the distance between you and your partner to build strength, but the benefits of the particular exercise tend to be negative once the distance exceeds 20 yards.

To work on accuracy, have the coach yell to which part of the body the passer should throw the ball to. Usually the trainer starts with the head and moves down. The quarterback takes the actual center, backs up and points to the area pointed out by the coach.

Emphasize the proper way to go from the beginning to the end of this exercise. After passing and throwing twenty to thirty passes, have your participants switch legs and repeat the routine.

Accuracy is needed as well as the proper throwing motion. Each QB can consistently get to their spots, so a timing element becomes much easier.

As a quarterback committed to taking your deep passes to the next level, it’s critical that you also develop a shooting technique that continues to deliver the ball exactly where it needs to be.

Take a look at these exercises to improve your skill and focus. Proper catching skills should be practiced, including catching with the hands and securing the ball before they run. This requires a lot of focus.
