Beach volleyball is a completely different game than 6v6 indoor volleyball. One obvious difference is the fact that it is played outside in the elements. So you have to consider many other factors, such as the wind and the sun. These are the top 2 reasons teams switch sides in multiples of 7 in the middle of games. One side will always have an advantage over the other because the sun will be in the eyes of one team or the wind will be in favor of one side more than the other. Then, to eliminate these advantages or disadvantages, the teams switch sides when the sum of the points of both teams adds up to 7 or multiples of seven.

For example, when the score is 8 to 6, the teams will switch sides. Or if the score is 14-14 or even 14-0, they will switch sides to keep everything fair.

That’s not the only difference between indoor and outdoor volleyball, the whole game is different when it comes to the rules.
