Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins is a must read for all workers. He shows that workers have no voice in the process of Globalization and Free Trade. It is the testimony of a man who thought he had it all until he realized how people are sacrificed on the altar of greed. Almost twenty years ago, another man came forward as well. Sir James Goldsmith wrote The Trap. As a highly successful corporate raider, he was best known for his attack on BF Goodrich. He would find weak companies and try to grab them for pennies on the dollar. Then one day he realized that what he was doing was not good for society. He became a populist activist. He was active in France and England before he died, dedicated to restoring local value-added savings in the world.

It’s time to prepare for the post-globalization era. Free trade is the tool of globalization. It now has a long history of failure dating back to 1956 when the US federal government first sponsored the relocation of production and factories outside of the US. This evolved into maquiladora factory programs that they now have over thirty years of failure history. Mexican workers continue to flock to the United States in search of economic survival. Since NAFTA was approved, the number of factories moved to Mexico has doubled and now the NAFTA and GATT trade agreements have more than fourteen years of failure. It is obvious that this chaos cannot continue.

In the United States, a poor working class has replaced a working middle class. Hurricane Katrina exposed a vast underclass in the US who live in a silent depression. These workers don’t make enough money to support Globalization and Free Trade and the upper class in the US isn’t big enough to support them either. The time has come to pay off with one of the home ownership lighting strikes. Foreclosures are breaking all records. Mayor Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio, is suing more than a dozen banks and mortgage investors. He calls what he did a white collar crime. His actions may give rise to a class action lawsuit. We had plenty of warning signs as those in power and the small upper class relished the rewards. They have ridden the horse of Globalization and Free Trade but now that horse is worn out and will not reach the finish line. It’s finished.

John Perkins steps forward to tell us about his confession as an EHM (Economic Hit Man) who thought he was doing everything the right way but discovered he was being used by powers behind the World Bank. He discovered that he betrayed the common man and the common good and God gave him the power to confess his mistakes. He was sent as an economist to set nations around the world in a scheme of external powers schemes outside the will of the people in the US and other countries.

In the preface to his book, he says:

“Economic Hitmen (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the world out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAIS) and other foreign “aid” organizations into the coffers of major corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet’s natural resources. Their tools include fraudulent financial reporting, rigged elections, bribery, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on terrifying new dimensions during this time of globalization.”
