There are so many places to ski around the world, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Here we focus on American ski resorts and travel times. You can travel domestically or internationally, but no matter where you’re coming from, staying close to an airport shortens your overall travel time. So it may be a quick trip from an American city or an international flight from the UK, Australia, New Zealand or South America, but it’s always convenient to have a short transfer to the ski slopes to get to the snow more quickly.

Many ski resorts in the US are close to regional airports, allowing you to fly close to where you’re staying and ski.

Aspen and Snowmass ski resorts have the shortest transfer times. You can fly directly into Aspen Pitkin Airport right in the mountains from many US cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, and Chicago. From there it is a very short 10-15 minute drive or airport shuttle to the city of Aspen where Aspen Mountain (Ajax) is located and where the famous city of Aspen with its many shops, bars, restaurants and life night, bustles with activity. Snowmass is also only a 15 minute shuttle ride from the Aspen airport. Snowmass is the largest of Aspen’s 4 mountains and where most of the ski lodging is located. Airport transfers from Aspen Pitkin are often included with an accommodation reservation, making it very easy to get to your ski accommodation quickly and comfortably.

Eagle Vail Airport is another example of a regional airport near several ski towns. Beaver Creek, if it’s the closest, is about 25 minutes from Eagle Vail and Vail is about 40 minutes from there. Beaver Creek is a hidden gem of a resort and since most visitors come from Denver, many of them stop in Vail and don’t spend the extra 10-15 minutes to get to Beaver Creek. If you fly into Eagle Vail, Beaver Creek is the first ski area you arrive at and with less crowds it’s one to try. Vail Ski Resort is, of course, famous for having the most terrain in Colorado with its incredible back bowls, especially fabulous on a powder day, plus its groomed slopes at the front for skiers and snowboarders. more intermediates.

Now, the Jackson Hole Airport is close to the Jackson Hole Ski Resort of the same name, just a 30-minute drive or airport shuttle. Jackson Hole Ski Resort is located in Teton Village and is known for its expert runs, including “Corbet’s Couloir.” However, less well known is the number of blue intermediate runs it has and every elevator (except the tram) has access to at least one blue run, to give you some peace of mind. Guests flying into Jackson Hole Airport can also access the nearby Snow King and Grand Targhee ski areas.

Salt Lake City is an international airport with daily flights from Paris and Amsterdam, as well as many cities in the US, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, which is especially helpful for our Australian customers. From Salt Lake it’s a super-quick 35-minute drive to Park City Ski Resort, now the largest in the US. Since the Park City and Canyons ski areas were connected by the Quicksilver Gondola, this area Ski area now simply called Park City Mountain is huge and offers endless skiing and snowboarding opportunities, even for people staying for two weeks or more.

Also nearby is Deer Valley Resort, just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City Airport. This ski resort is named the number one ski resort in North America by Ski magazine year after year and has a plethora of luxury ski-in and ski-out accommodations. The short commute makes Park City and Deer Valley ski resorts convenient options, especially with the town of Park City less than 5 minutes away for you to enjoy with its historic Main Street, shops, bars, and restaurants.

Salt Lake City also allows access to other Utah ski resorts including Brighton, Alta, Snowbird, and more.

Denver International Airport is home to at least 2 direct flights from London, wonderful for UK skiers wanting to experience the delights of powder skiing in America. British Airways and Norwegian Air currently offer nonstop flights during the ski season, with United flights added towards the end of March/April for Easter. With this nonstop flight, it’s easy to hop directly on a shuttle to one of Colorado’s top resorts. Breckenridge and Winter Park are about a 2 hour drive or sometimes less depending on snow conditions. Alternatively, Vail and Beaver Creek are just over an hour away. Aspen and Steamboat are also accessible from Denver, but a little further, around 4 hour transfer, so regional airports may be more convenient.

Here are some of the top ski resorts in the United States close to an airport with short transfers, making your trip quick and easy. Shorten your travel time, check into your accommodation, strap on your skis and be on the slopes in no time, happy skiing!
