What is technology? I bet everyone you ask will give you a different definition, depending on the things I wear. I’m sure your mother will tell you that technology makes her life easier because of all the gadgets that were invented, your younger brother will say that technology means state-of-the-art computers and very detailed games, you will probably say that it is your mobile phone. I will say that technology for me is semi-cocked food. It was probably the best invention of all time. But it’s just me.
So, we have established how we mortals view technology. But wouldn’t it really be interesting to see what it really is? Well, it is about how a species has customs and knowledge of instruments intended to make life easier and how it affects its ability to fit in with the environment. This is a general definition.
We humans see it as a result of the interaction of different science and engineering.
Technology is one of those terms that you can’t really define. It can mean everything from a main board to a way to organize a factory. It can refer to practically everything, because everything around us was, to some extent, technological failures.
How can we use it? As such, in specific areas like “medical technology”, describing only one aspect of science or in expressions like “cutting edge technology”, which is much more abstract.
We have used technology to where we exist. It is in our blood to discover all kinds of things designed to make our lives easier. And if they don’t exist, you can bet we’ll make them up. Starting with the discovery of fire and adapting all the things that we find in nature to our needs and ending with the World Wide Web and space satellites launched into orbit, we managed to put everything in our favor. And that is technology. Well, as our ancestors used to say, since the invention of the wheel we have learned a lot about controlling our environment.
Technology is everything that surrounds us, allowing us to interact on a global scale. Imagine that! With just one click you can see your friend from the other side of the world in real time. Not just talk to her, but watch her, see what she does and how she reacts.
But technology also brought us a great curse. We don’t just invent good things. There are many destructive gadgets that do not facilitate our existence, only complicate or end it. Bang-bang! And that’s not your son’s gun, but a real one that can end his life in the blink of an eye.
Yet technology is what makes the world go round every day. Well not exactly. Magic or the laws of nature do it. Technology is everything else, all the things that magic cannot be blamed for. Ant, that’s about 99.9% of the things you use in life. So, VIVA Technology.
