The Detroit Pistons became a prominent presence in the world of basketball, and the way they played it wasn’t that simple. There were many rivalries between the teams and one such rival team in the Pistons was the Chicago Bulls. This rivalry had started in the year 1988 during the Eastern Conference matches.

It was in the semifinal that these teams went head to head. Michael Jordan was in his prime in that period of time and in his games against the Pistons he scored a lot. He was the league MVP of the year. The Pistons’ defense found it very difficult to contain Jordan. He scored 59 points and thus the Bulls emerged victorious. He was the leading scorer in their previous win, also against the Pistons. These losses angered the Pistons’ coach and he introduced new plans to prevent Jordan from attacking them.

Jordan’s individual talent was not enough to cope with the Pistons’ new strategies. Thus they were able to declare their dominance over the bulls. Following this win, they defeated the Boston Celtics and recorded their first Conference title and this was the Detroit Pistons’ first major win after moving to Detroit from Fort Wayne. In 1989 they became the best team in the league by posting a record 63 wins. Then they were maintaining their winning streak to be the NBA champions.

During the 1989-90 season, the Pistons were able to come out on top under the clever strategies put forward by then-coach Phil Jackson and assistant coach Tex Winter. The strategy created by them was called the triple post offense or triangle offense and it turned out to be a handful for the other teams. Thus they defeated the bulls again and then won their second consecutive NBA championship.
